Infantino foldable playmat review

Baby play mats are a great idea to mark out a safe and comfy spot for your little one to hang out and play. The great thing about them is that they can be moved from room to room, so that you can always be sure your baby is on a soft, clean surface for tummy-time play.

We love the extra large Infantino foldable playmat that helps to keep your space tidy with its clever, not to mention useful feature – the sides fold up and fasten to create a contained play space. This means toys won't roll and spread out all over the room, they'll stay within the mat, and hopefully so will little one!

The soft and durable foam is thick but also designed to fold so that you can store the mat away in its storage bag - also ideal for taking on-the-go. We love that this mat is reversible too, so you can change the look according to your room from child-friendly to stylish.

But never mind what we think! What do parent think? We asked our parent tester to try this product out and share their thoughts with our readers in this review...

Testing the Infantino foldable playmat review

First Impressions

When I first opened this mat I thought oh no I’m never going to be able to get it back in the bag again! But I was pleasantly surprised to find that as long as you find the right grooves in the mat, it folds down really easily and goes back into the bag perfectly.

Features

I love that it is two-sided, with one rather nice modern grey pattern, and the other a bright patchwork pattern. It is rather big when unfolded, which is great for playtime, and having the more muted side means I can flip it over but leave it out in the living room if I don’t fancy putting it away, and it's not too in your face.

We’ve also used it as a ball pit as you can clip the sides up to create a more contained area. The sides up isn’t enough to contain my baby like a playpen would, but it slows him down a bit and keeps toys and balls within his reach quite well.

Ease of Cleaning

The material is soft and most importantly wipeable! We’ve had spilled drinks and food, and nappy changes on there and it’s so easy to just wipe down. No stains, no need to wash, so very happy with that.

I’m so glad it fitted back into the bag so easily as that keeps it clean and tidy ready for the next playtime.

Comfort

The padding on the mat is lovely. My baby is happy to crawl around on it and I can sit on it comfortably with him to play.

Storage & Portability

It's lightweight and easy to store, it lives on top of our wardrobe when not in use and it’s really easy to lift down etc.

I’ve also taken it to family and friend’s houses who didn’t have a playmat, so that I knew he’d have a safe and comfortable place to play.

Value for money

I’d say for the price this playmat is definitely worth the money, the fact that it is so easy to clean and that you can use it inside and out is great. Even though it’s large it folds down to a good portable size, you could even use it as a picnic mat!

Final thoughts

The only thing I’d suggest to improve it would be to have the straps attached to the mat in some way. It’s a bit annoying that they’re separate. I thought they were missing at first until I spotted them in the bag. It’s most likely a safety issue to have them dangling loose, but it would be good if there was some way they could be tucked away while still attached to the mat. The feed through design of the straps is also a bit fiddly, although nice and secure once done.

But otherwise, very pleased with this product and would recommend it to other parents.
